Apricus 30 tube collector x8
Te Whare Oranga Ngakau, based in Rotorua
, is a drug & alcohol rehabilitation center and is a part of the Te Utuhina Manaakitanga Trust. They provide clinical services within a Kaupapa Māori framework.
Their mission is to "ensure our values for our whaiora include the balance between the Physical (Tinana), the Mind (Hinengaro) and the Spirit (Wairua)."
In keeping with these values Apricus developed a combined solar hot water and PV electric system that would help with TUMT's role as a kaitiaki of the environment as well as people. The Apricus solar hot water system provides solar heated water for the residents at Te Whare Oranga Ngakau, reducing their use of LPG. There are eight Apricus 30 tube collectors preheating all the hot water for the bathrooms and kitchen.
This is system is complemented by a 5kW grid-tied PV system to reduce the energy bills of the organisation.
Both systems reduce the Trust's running costs while being completely hassle free, allowing the team at TUMT to focus on their hauora wānanga.
